Useful Tips |
| Traffic - by Brat Chakravorty from New Delhi, India |
| Two bridges and one tunnel bridging the Deira & Bur Dubai is woefully inadequate to balance the rising rush in traffic. Falling interest rates in vehicle loan and rising population is adding to the burden. This needs to be addressed fast, real fast. |
| Traffic - by John Charlesworth from England |
| Dubai has an annoying system where it is very difficult in places to effect a left turn resulting in your having to make huge detours in order to reach your destination.
Also avoid rush hour esp around airport and on road to Sharjah |
Dubai Overview |
| A trip to Dubai reveals a modern city with a skyline that is forever transforming with the progressive development of modern buildings. Dubai’s CBD is divided by the Creek, with access to each section by tunnel or bridge. Magnificent Mosques, and bustling souks, (markets) modern buildings with traditional Arabian architectural features, and all the usual amenities of a city are found in either side. |

Dubai Essentials |
The Creek – The colourful, noisy bustle of the creek changes to a peaceful haven for birds, especially flamingos, on the lagoon at the inland end.
Archaeological Sites –Graveyards that date back to before the birth of Christ and artefacts from the seventh century are revealed in the three digs here.
Bastakiya –Dubai’s past can be seen in the narrow lanes, and tall wind towers that once cooled the houses in the old Bastakiya district
Sheikh Saeed’s House – The Sheikh’s house is an excellent example of the region’s architecture of the late 1800’s with wind towers and central courtyard.
Jumeirah Mosque – This spectacularly beautiful Mosque is built of stone in the tradition of medieval Fatimid, with twin minarets and an imposing dome.
Grand Mosque – Re-built in 1998, the Grand Mosque on the Bur Dubai side of the Creek has the tallest minaret in the city and is a famous landmark. |
