Useful Tips |
| Scenic drives - by Myrtle from Derby |
| The Friendship Bridge from Laos to Nong Khai in Thailand was quite an experience and the scenery was awesome. If you want to get around a hired car is the best bet in my opinion. |
| Traffic - by Levant from Turkey |
| One question you should ask yourself though is whether you are brave enough to drive in Bangkok? We say this because driving in Bangkok can be much more of a daunting experience than in other major capitals around the world. Most signs are in English and Thai, but the overwhelming number of motorbikes on the roads can put many people off driving. |
| Speed limit - by SomjaiSFW from Thailand |
| The speed limit is now 90kmph 55mph on all major highways including all expressways. If speed limit is not posted always assume 80kmph for four lanes streets, and no higher than 60kmph otherwise. This is part of the government's energy savings measure. Police will be on the lookout for violators this holiday season. Also, drunk driving in Thailand now has severe legal consequences similar to most other western countries. Do not drive drunk! |
| Traffic - by John Brown from England |
| Always be on the lookout for motorbikes travelling on the wrong side of the road. They will cross over 500m before a right turn on a duel carrigeway and travel towards you until they get to the turning.
Also beware of motorcyclists in the "Rainy season" as the pillions usually have an umbrella which they hold over the driver. |
| Speed limit - by Jason from New Zealand |
| Obey all posted speed limits. |

Thailand Overview |
| Thailand is Asia’s most popular destination and it is easy to see why. From the vibrant city of Bangkok to the ruins scattered around the country, Thailand is delightful throughout. Uncompromised by tourism and full of cultural and natural riches, there can be few better destinations for a holiday than Thailand. Visitors come to this Asian country for a variety of reasons, and few leave disappointed. |

Thailand Essentials |
Bangkok – Situated in the south of the country, Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. Despite having developed into a modern commercially thriving city, the capital is still full of sights and tradition, particularly amazing is the Grand Palace, which cannot be missed.
Phuket – The largest island in Thailand is extremely popular with tourists. The incredible beach resorts throughout the province are the reason most visitors come and they are the perfect place to relax.
Chaing Mai – The second largest city in Thailand, Chaing Mai, is found in the north of the country. The city has lots of tradition and culture, with over 300 Wats (temples) including the magnificent Wat Chiang Man. Chaing Mai has a fantastic restaurant scene and the city is very tourist friendly.
Nakhom Pathom – Thought to be the oldest town in Thailand, Nakhon Pathom can be found around 50km to the west of Bangkok. It is an area of great religious significance as it is believed to not only be the place where Buddhism entered the region.
Ayuthaya – Once one of the world’s greatest cities, Ayuthaya is situated approximately 50 miles to the north of Bangkok. Although many of the city’s most impressive sights have been destroyed, the ruins here are still fascinating. |

Thailand Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events |
Songkran (April) – The Thai new year is celebrated across the country. Bangkok and Chaing Mai’s celebrations are particularly good at this time of year.
The Queens Birthday Celebrations (12th of August) – Buildings across the country are spectacularly decorated in respect of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand on her Birthday.
