| Depending on the area you are in, parking can be indicated differently. Make sure to look out for signs & remember most blue-line parking are for the resident-only. Parking is allowed on one way streets on even dates along the side with even addresses, and on odd dates along the side with odd addresses. Always park in the direction of the flow of traffic, and never park within 5 metres of enterences to buildings or junctions. It is permissable to park for 1.5 hours between 8am and 9pm in the Zona Azul (Blue Zones). These are signposted, and parking discs can be purchased from travel agencies, your hotel the town hall. Parking offences are not tolerated well, and vehicles are often towed. It is generally recommended you stop in Parking Garages for safety. Prices on these vary, so be aware of the charge before you drive in. Whether parking in a garage or on the street never leave bags or valuables in the car. |

| I was gonna make use of the public transport while I was staying in Alicante, but decided upon arrival to hire a car from one of the many car hire companies based at Alicante airport. They all have their own car park at the front of the airport. It was really a mission! I would advise that one prebooks, and when you have booked your hire car, make sure you have full details of where to go to collect your rental car. |
Alicante Overview |
| One of Spain's most popular spots, and deservedly so, Alicante nestles next to the Costa Blanca (White Coast) where some of Spain's most stunning beaches can be found. A great place for those looking for golden white beaches and a bustling night life, Alicante is the perfect place to party all night long, then kick back and recover on the beach through the day. |

Alicante Essentials |
La Playa de San Juan - A short drive from the city centre, La Playa de San Juan is Alicante's most famous beach. 7km of golden sand stretching along the Mediterranean coast, this one of the best reasons to visit Alicante.
Museo de la Asegurada - Impressive former prison and munitions store, today this imposing 17th century building houses an amazing collection of 20th century art including works by Spanish greats Picasso, Dali and Miro.
Castillo de Santa Barbara - Not to be missed, the Castillo de Santa Barbara has everything you expect from a castle, including a drawbridge, hidden passages and a dungeon. Situated on the summit of Mount Benacantil, this fairy tale castle overlooks the Alicante and acts as a stunning backdrop to the surrounding area. Within the castle you can also visit a beautiful sculpture garden which showcases some of Spain's master sculptors.
Isla de Tabarca - A great day trip from Alicante, Isa de Tabarca is just 17km off the coast of Alicante you can reach it by one of the many glass bottom boats which leave from Alicante Port. On the island you'll find quiet secluded beaches and some excellent seafood restaurants. For a more interesting adventure, why not take a trip in the yellow submarine which departs from Tabarca's harbour on the island.
Santa Pola - If the crowds of Alicante become too much for you, why not make a short drive down to the small fishing village of Santa Pola 18km south of Alicante. Still a popular spot for tourists, you can be guaranteed that the beaches will be that little bit quieter. The spectacular white sands of Gran Playa and Play Lissa are particularly worth visiting. Beyond the beach, Santa Pola also some beautiful churchs worth visiting. |
