Situated 234km east of Puerto Rico, this scrub-covered island is divided between the Dutch (St Maarten) and the French (St Martin).
The Dutch side contains the islands major airport, more shops and more tourist facilities, and the French side has some of the poshest hotels and superior food. Both sides are modern, urbanized and cosmopolitan with great beaches, shopping, gamblimg, nightlife and self-contained resorts. |

Grand Case Beach - A long thin curve of white sand embracing calm surf, it offers great swimming, snorkeling and beautiful sunsets. Its real claim to fam is it's choice of culinary adventures, with first-class restaurants, lolo fare (barbecue shacks) and an outdoor lobster bake on sundays.
The Butterfly Farm - Found in Quartier D'Orleans, being here is like being in someone's dream. In a lush tropical rain forrest-like garden, exotic butterflies fly overhead and all around you. There are tours given at regular intervals in various languages.
St Maarten Zoo - Sint Maarten Park covers aproximatly 8acres, on the edge of the Salt Pond and has about 90 species of wild animals from the Caribbean and South America amongst a garden of exotic vegetation.
Orient Beach - Everything you could ever ask for in a full-service beach, including the options of experiencing everything naturally in designated areas. Watersports, live music, superb beach conditions and a carnival-like atmosphere make this the place to see.
Dawn Beach - This gorgeous, unspoilt beach lies on the Oyster Pond's Atlatic side. This beach is famous for its spectacular sunrise views, excellent snorkeling and plenty of shady palm trees. There are several restuarants nearby for you to enjoy the local cuisine. |
