It is an absolute "must" to go a ride on the metro in Moscow. You must get off at several stations to stare in awe at the marble and the statues. The trains are old but run on time and regular.
Scenic drives - by Bron from Oudsthoorn
A car is vital, I found, to successfully navigate throughout this sprawling city, BUT, with such a distinct painting of the contrasts of rich and poor, the back streets, away from the tourist areas, offers a fascinating walking ground from which to glimpse into the grim every day lives of a nation coming to terms with post-communist Russia.

Moscow Overview
An old city that has seen many dramatic events and changes over the centuries. Moscow is today hedonistically given over to newfound capitalism, and a blast of progressive building programmes are bringing about the most radical changes of all. There are still amazingly beautiful old historical buildings to be seen and the land remains the same, no matter whose hand is at the helm.

Moscow Essentials
Kremlin – Intrigue, revolts, and enemy guns at its gates, have beleaguered this centuries old place, today a grand museum safe-guarding its invaluable treasures.

St Basil’s Cathedral – This magnificent, ornate and ancient cathedral is part of the entire world’s heritage surviving the onslaught of time and religious differences.

The Cathedral of Christ the Savoir – The Byzantine style Cathedral was constructed in 1839 in gratitude for protection from ‘the Gaul’s invasion’.

The Novodevichy Convent – Founded in the early 1500’s this beautiful convent in Moscow has valuable works of art painted and carved on its walls.

Bolshoi Theatre – No visit to Moscow is complete without a trip to the home of the world renowned Bolshoi Ballet.

Moscow Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events
Masienitsa Festival – (February) A revival of an old folk tradition celebrating the advent of spring.
