| Quarteira Overview |
Quartaira lies on the Algarve coast about halfway between Faro and Albufeira. Like many of these small towns along the coast, this was a fishing village that has gracefully bowed to tourism. The old town is dwarfed by tall hotels and apartments and many residents from the nearby holiday resorts live in the town.
As well as being a good central base in which to explore the region, Quartaira has a lovely long beach, promenade and much natural beauty surrounding it. |

Yearly Market (Feira)(24th September) - Every Wednesday there is a fair at the market grounds, but they pull out all the stops on this crazy day.
Sardine Festival (July/August) - This popular festival is held in Quarteira and Portimao and co-incides with the sardine run. Barbeques are set up on the beach and sardines are cooked in original ways. |
