Praia Da Rocha's natural drawcard is it's many coves tucked away in between red rock cliffs, pristine golden sands and warm clear waters. It started out as the favourite holiday destination for the nearby Portimao families and for a long time was just a sleepy holiday village, but the global tourist discovered the area in the 60s and it's never been the same again.
That is not to say that it's lost the charm of days gone by. |

Fortress of Santa Catarina de Ribamar - This fort was the ancient defence system of Portimao, and was built in the perfect position overlooking the harbour. Enjoy stunning vistas from here at sunset.

Tomas Cabreina Ave - This amounts to the promenade and is a lovely stroll any time of day. You will pass most of the hotels and get a chance to see the full length of the beach.
Monchique - This spa village is about 17km away and offers hot natural springs that are said to cure rheumatism, back-ache, asthma and indigestion among other illnesses. The village is also beautiful.
Jesuit College - This church in the nearby town dates back to the 1700s and is the largest in the Algrave. The drawcard is the beautifully painted carvings and glide alter. |
