| The traffic in Lisbon is horrible, but by car you can reach all the places and it is not necessary to buy tickets, and there are no schedules. I visited Lisbon and also other near places such as Oeiras, Estoril, Sintra and Cascais by car. |

The capital of Portugal is a passionate city with great zest and atmosphere. Situated by the Rio Tejo in the south of the country, Lisbon is full of culture and visually appealing with great architecture. Lisbon has a relaxing laid back attitude and is a great place to visit.
Of the many attractions Lisbon has to offer its museums and art galleries are of particular interest, but the city also offers great food and has a wonderful and unique nightlife.

| Lisbon Essentials |
Sé - This magnificent cathedral is found in Alfama, Lisbon's oldest district. Sé has a fantastic Romanesque style and is the most prominent and important religious building in Lisbon.
Castelo de São Jorge - Situated high on a hill in the Alfama district, Castelo de São Jorge must not be missed. This majestic castle is excellent inside and out, it also offers terrific views of Lisbon from its pronounced position.
Belém - The area of Belém in Lisbon has an enormous amount to see. The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos is the first port of call for many tourists, and the intricate structure must not be missed. The area also has some excellent museums including the Monument to the Discoveries and the Museu de Arte Popular, which are amongst the best in the Portugal.
Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga - This superb museum houses the national collection of art. You will find work from a wide range of styles and times here but the most impressive section is the coverage of 15th and 16th century Portuguese art.
Cristo Rei - This giant Jesus structure is really impressive even if it is significantly smaller than the one in Rio. Cristo Rei can be found just over the river in Cacilhas. |
