| Cascais Overview |
Caiscais was established in 1938 as a small fisherman village with beautiful little cottages. According to a legend rumored by the local fishermen, America was actually discovered by a local fisherman named Afonso Sanches in 1482.
It has become an extremely popular tourist destination, particularly during the months ranging from early spring to autumn, when the tiny harbour is covered in a rainbow of boats. The town has grown tremendously during the past few years, boasting beautiful new hotels, apartment blocks and the ever so finest restaurants. |

Monumental de Cascais - A very popular destination to visit, particularly on Sundays during the summer months, as this is where the entertaining bullfights are held.
Museu do Mar - The small Museum of the Sea is home to various exhibits which range from a collection of fishing artifacts, model boats, photographs and paintings.
Museu do Conde de Castro Guimaraes - The museum offers its guest an opportunity to view the life's of the people of Portugal during the 18th and 19th centuries. Items on display include goods such as ceramics, artwork, antiques, and shawls.
The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assuncao - This is one of the most important churches in Portugal. It contains beautiful paintings, created by the 17th century artist Josefa de Obidos. The church also features a stunning 16th century altar.

Festival of the Sea - The festival is held annually from July to August. Young fishermen, brave the fierce anger of the bulls which are sent to run along the local beach.
All Souls' Day - Dia de Finados - The festival day is held every year on the 1st of November. It is celebrated throughout the whole ofPortugal and is a day to commemorate person's who have passed away, by laying flowers on family graves. |
