Useful Tips |
| Parking - by Brett from Melbourne |
| I recommend the parking lot located just west of Campo dei Miracoli, the main tourist area of Pisa (It's a very small area that really should only be done on foot). It’s secure, and there was enough space for even my station wagon, and they didn't charge much per hour. If you come from the north then the parking lot will be on your right side. |
| Traffic - by Jennifer Kirklys from Boston, Massachusetts, USA |
| Don't be frightened to drive in Pisa or any other city in Italy for that matter. Generally other drivers will yield/give way(for you Brits) and give you the right of way. But remember there are lots of other kinds of traffic like bikes, pedestrians and mopeds who don't always adhere to traffic laws so be prepared for suprises. If you're from a major metropolitan city anywhere in the world you'll think Pisa is a "cake walk". I've lived here for the past 2.5 years and I suggest that everyone should at some time come and visit this unique little city on the Arno. |
| Speed limit - by Jack from Dublin |
| I found out that the fines for speeding here are very hefty, about 190 euro, but if you are polite and explain that you are a foreigner and trying to adapt to the laws, the polizia will understand, they are a very friendly, helpful bunch of people. |
Pisa Overview |
Famous for one of Europe's most renowned landmarks, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the city has long attracted tourists and has lots to
offer.
Pisa's biggest draw, after the Leaning Tower, is its magnificent architecture with fabulous buildings dating back to various points in
history. Amongst the fantastic attractions here the Duomo and Baptistry are really special. Pisa is a charming destination which will
not disappoint.
|

Pisa Essentials |
Leaning Tower of Pisa - One of the most incredible sights in the world. This brilliant yet slightly amusing structure is worth
the trip to Pisa alone.
Duomo - This breathtaking cathedral dates back to the 12th Century and is situated in close vicinity to the Leaning Tower of
Pisa. The sights on offer throughout the Duomo are incredible, but none surpass the magnificent huge bronze doors through which you
enter.
Baptistery - Pisa's Baptistery is the largest in Italy and must not be missed. The Baptistery is an awe inspiring structure which
houses three floors of excellent arcades.
Camposanto - Found along the north edge of Campo dei Miracoli, Camposanto is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in
the world. Some incredible frescoes can be seen on the walls here.
Teatro Verdi - This fantastic theatre is quite beautiful and hosts plays, operas, ballet and just about every other form of
entertainment throughout the year. |

Pisa Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events |
Festa di San Ranieri - Over 70,000 candles are lit in celebration of Pisa's patron saint, San Ranieri. A boat race is amongst
the other key events to celebrate this festival.
Bridge Battle - This historic event used to involve violent battles between Pisa's northern bank and Pisa's southern bank.
Now the event involves a march and an endurance competition between the two teams. |
