"Padua, (Padova) a major art centre of the Veneto, and home to Italy’s second oldest university, has a rich heritage of ancient architecture in it’s inner core, and a lively energy generated by the students thronging the streets.
Padova is also more affordable than nearby Venice, and a cheaper option if visitors are prepared to commute.

"Basilica di Sant'Antonio – Built in the 13th century, this basilica is dedicated to St Anthony of Padua, whose body is interred in a marble tomb in the Saints Chapel. Constructed mainly in Romanesque and Gothic style, with an interior that is richly decorated.
Chapel of the Scrovegni (Cappella degli Scrovegni) - This unpretentious chapel in Padua contains the priceless frescoes executed by Giotto in 1305 to 1306, and is a must-see when visiting the city.
Chiesa degli Eremitani – Bombed in 1944, this church lost one of the greatest treasures of Italy, the Ovetari Chapel, and the Andrea Mantegna (1431-1506) frescoes. In the reconstruction of the church fragments were retrieved and are displayed to the right of the main altar.
Civic Museum (Museo Civico di Padova) – This gallery is filled with works by major Venetian artists, dating as far back as the 14th century, and includes Tintoretto’s masterpiece, Supper in Simone's House and Crucifixion.
Palace of Law (Palazzo della Ragione) – Dating from the early 13th century, the Palazzo is one of northern Italy’s most extraordinary buildings, and has a roof resembling the hull of a ship.
