Novara Overview |
Novara is the capital of the province of Novara, Piedmont, in Italy. It is noted for its cotton, wool and silk textiles, as well as the manufacture of machinery.
Situated as it is in Piedmont, it is a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside with its lakes and mountains, and towns.

Novara Essentials |
Local Cuisine – The Piedmont Region is known for its wonderful cheeses some of which had theirs origins in the Middle Ages. The best-known Piedmontese cheese is the Gorgonzola. If you have a sweet tooth try the two local cakes, "biscottini" (made with cinnamon) and the "San Gaudenzio bread" (made with almonds) are both delicious.
Hosteria de Ferrari – Via Cavour 3 Frascaro – This traditional restaurant is considered to be one of the best in the area.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta - Was built by Antonelli on the site of an ancient church. The cloister, which was built in the 11th century and the oratory (12th century) are of great interest. In particular, the Oratory is worth viewing for the important cycle of frescoes that have been preserved here.
The Barrage Natural Reserve - From Novara take the State Road 299 from where it is possible to see the Reserve, in which are located a number of interesting small historical towns.
Caltignaga - Take a trip out to this little town as it is home to an interesting castle; it is also part of the Lagoni Mercurago Natural Oasis.
