Situated in northern Italy around 50 miles away from Milan, Bergamo is a popular and beautiful destination. Bergamo is located close to mountains and has a peaceful and serene atmosphere far removed from some of Italy's other cities.
Bergamo is split into two distinct parts, Bergamo Bassa and Bergamo Alta. Bergamo Bassa is the lower part of the city and is quite modern and lively. On the other hand, Bergamo Alta is the higher part of town and has a traditional style and feel to it. Bergamo must be one of Europe's most enjoyable destinations with its perfect mix of culture, great architecture, peaceful surroundings and modern conveniences. |

Accademia Carrara - Possibly Bergamo's most popular attraction, the Accademia Carrara has one of Italy's finest art collections. There are pieces here from many fine artists including Bellini and Botticelli.
Piazza Vechia - The centre of the old town, Piazza is a wide open space with a fountain in the middle. It is the perfect area to just kick back and relax with beautiful buildings all around.
Santa Maria Maggiore - This 12th century church is a magnificent sight, and one of the most attractive buildings in Bergamo. There are some great things to see in the church including Flemish tapestries, frescoes and ornaments from the churche's history.
Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea - A fine selection of temporary exhibitions are always on show at this excellent modern art gallery.
Museo Donizettiano - This interesting museum has instruments and artefacts that document the life of one of Bergamo's favourite sons, the composer Gaetano Donizetti. |
