| Anagni Overview |
Anagni is located in the Latium area southeast of Rome. The centre remains unspoilt from it's days as a Roman outpost. The town dates back to the 7th century and was populated by the Etruscanss who formed strong trading links with the surrounding areas. (Four popes have come from the town.)
Today it's a pleasant town with a lovely Romanesque Cathedral and historic streets. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to keep you busy. |
| Anagni Essentials |
The Cathedral - Was constructed in the 11th century and built on the ancient site of the Acropolis. The interior has some of the original artworks and mosaic flooring.
Palace of Boniface VIII - This misunderstood pope (its an interesting story) who died in 1303, lived in the palace, but the history is more interesting than the palace.
Barnekow House - The 14 the century residence is beautifully adorned with ancient frescos.It is in an area of 18th and 19th century buildings.
Villa Magna - This is just on the outskirts of town and was a Roman villa, which later became a monastery. It is now a farm and is worth viewing.
The Town Hall - Beautiful arcades and original design make for an admirable piece of architecture. |

Fair of S. Maria di Marzo (25th March) - This a Catholic celebration of the saint.
St Vincent's Fair (3rd Sunday in May) - Street parades are held to lift up this saint. |
