Useful Tips |
| - by Gail from Gloucester |
| Cars, motorbikes and quads are useful for travelling around the island and you're able to rent any of these in numerous outlets around Kos. There is no heavy traffic on the island so it's quite safe, but mind the fact that driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly forbidden and can be the beginning of serious problems............ |
Kos Overview |
| The young, fun-loving crowd that frequents the town of Kos probably don’t give a hoot that it the birthplace of Hippocrates and has been around for aeons, what with the heady air of exhilaration of techno and hip hop blasting from balconies, long, cool and decidedly alcoholic drinks, and gorgeous tanned bodies parading in seriously eye-catching attire. The more mature visitor is drawn to the surrounding countryside where they find spectacular beaches and tranquillity in quiet mountain villages in the less explored rural areas. |

Kos Essentials |
Archaeological Museum – Hellenistic and Roman artefacts, a 4th century BC marble statue of Hippocrates, and a 3rd century AD mosaic are among the items displayed.
Castle - The massive, old castle dominating Kos is one of the best examples of medieval architecture in Greece, with the inner keep and battlements dating back to 1450.
Casa Romana – Marble walls, mosaics of dolphins, lions and leopards, thermal baths and an ancient Roman road were uncovered in 1933 in these impressive ruins.
Plane Tree of Hippocrates – It would be fun to think that the huge 500 years old tree in Pl Platanou is really the one planted by Hippocrates 2400 years ago.
Asclepion – Take a daytrip from Kos and visit the 2nd and 3rd BC century ruins of the ancient sanctuary of Asclepion.
