| We had wonderful time in Dresden, the traffic was not a problem, everything here works on good oiled wheels. We go on very old funicular and got best views for the city. |

| 800 years packs a lot of history into a city and Dresden is vital proof of this having been a cultural hub of pre-war Germany, and the venue of many important assemblages affecting crucial movements in European history. Today with castles, palaces and churches amongst the ruins wreaked by the heavy Allied bombing of 1945, when over 75% of the city centre was destroyed and over 50,000 lives lost, Dresden is undergoing a massive reconstruction program expected to be complete by 2006. |

Zwinger - This magnificent Baroque palace, designed by Matthaus Daniel Poppelman, for Friedrich August I, is home to many of Dresden’s excellent museums.
Semper-Oper – Meticulous and precise restoration of Semper’s famous opera house has made it one of the most popular tourist attractions of the city.
Dresdener Schlob – Another victim of the Allied firebombing, the restoration of the residential palace of Sachsen’s Electors and emperors, is almost complete.
Schillerhauschen – Beethoven first heard Schiller’s ‘Ode an die Freude’ in this tiny cottage, strains of which can be heard in his Ninth Symphony.
Blaues Wunder – Connecting Blasewitz and Loschwitz this 19th century bridge was the only one to escape destruction by the Nazis at the end of WWII.
