| Metz has been around for a long, long time and has seen much change in its history. For over 3000 years the town has rolled with the punches as various conquerors have taken possession of it, but after WWII the city once again regained its French identity, which hopefully will continue well into the future. |

St Stephen's Cathedral (Cathedrale Saint-Etienne) - Built between 1220 and 1520 this cathedral was one of the tallest gothic structures of its time. It has magnificent stained glass windows designed by Chagall and is an absolute must-see.
Train station (La Gare) - This splendid railway station was built in the early 1900’s and was a symbol of the might of the German Empire.
St Louis square (Place Saint-Louis) - This arcaded medieval square was built between the 13th and 15th centuries and was the scene of trade fairs and religious theatrical plays.
Protestant Church (Temple Neuf) - One of the German contributions to Metz, this church was built in the early 1900’s in Rhenish neo-roman style.
Comedy Square (Place de la Comédie) - This is the oldest Italian theatre in France and was built between 1738 and 1753. |
