| When arriving in Bordeaux, it was our intention to drive directly to the tourist bureau and book ourselves on the all day wine tour the following day. BUT, getting to the tourist bureau proved to be somewhat of challenge. In most of the other areas in France, we could get around by just driving about looking for signs, but here there are no street signs at all! The streets are windy, narrow and mostly one way. On the first try around we were stymied by the fact that Rue Sainte Catherine, the major street on the map, was actually a pedestrian walkway closed to traffic, but we made it to the tourist bureau on the second try. |

Bordeaux is best known for its fantastic red wines and regional food but this city has much more to offer than just culinary delights. Situated in the south-west of France, around 50 miles in from the Atlantic coastline, Bordeaux one of the largest and most loved cities in France.
On top of the culinary delights of the area, Bordeaux has some excellent museums and an old town centre which is very pleasing with its neoclassical architecture. Add to this a large university population which add zest to the cities nightlife and Bordeaux is an almost perfect place to visit. |

Musée d'Aquitaine – This fine museum comorehensively catalogues the history of Bordeaux over the last 25,000 years. Throughout there are exceptional artefacts to be seen.
Palais Rohan – Bordeaux has been an affluent city for many years and this is shown by this fantastic town hall. The building dates back to 1784 and is exceptional inside and out.
Maison du Vin de Bordeaux – Find out about the prestigious wines of this region by visiting the headquarters of the Bordeaux Wine Council. Here you can learn about the history of the wines, arrange a tour or even a course in wine making.
Musée des Beaux-Arts – This art collection has been open for over 200 years and includes some fine pieces from the 17th Century.
Jardin Public – This large English style park is definitely worth a visit. Its main features are a lovely children’s playground and excellent botanical garden. |
