| The small village of Ivalo, population 3500, is the main administrative and commercial centre for northern Lapland, but holds no special interest for wilderness exploring tourists. Although the nearby city of Inari does and so is a much better place to stop after gathering suppliers from Ivalo. Just make a quick bus connection. |

Inarijarvi - Just north of Ivalo is Lake Inari, a massive lake containing multiple smaller islands, which is know for its almost limitless boating, fishing, hiking, and hunting opportunities.
Hotelli Ivalo - This is Ivalo's very modern and luxurious first-class hotel. The hotel is situated on the Ivalo River, so make sure to ask for one of the spacious river side rooms.
Saamelaismuseo - For those interested in finding out more about Lapland's history, lifestyle and culture, visit the Saame Museum on the outskirts of the nearby village Inari.
Kultamuseo - 60 kilometers south of Ivalo is the Gold Museum of Tankavaara, which for a fee will allow you to learn from real prospectors how to pan gold dust and small nuggets from the silt of an ice cold stream.
Inarin Porofarmi - At this actual working reindeer farm, you can either drive a reindeer sled or be towed on skis by reindeer for a small fee. The farm also trains reindeer for racing purposes. |
